UNIVEG UK held two themed days in October aimed at raising the awareness of Sustainability amongst colleagues. The events were arranged and carried out by the Sustainability Committee.
The first day focused on energy; collaborating with a local gym UNIVEG set up an exercise bike in each of the two Spalding site canteens. The objective was to demonstrate how much energy is required to power a simple appliance, so while pedalling colleagues were actively learning! Also during the day there was a sustainability quiz with a shopping voucher for the winner.
The second day, a week later, was the great UNIVEG “Taste-off”. All colleagues were invited to enter a competition to create their own chutney, family favourite jam or marmalade using our own end of life produce. All entries were judged by Sergi’s Deli, a local shop and restaurant in Spalding.
The proud winner was Ewa Nicinska and her entry called “Exotic Dream”. Second prize went to Kathryn Vincent with her entry called ‘Topically Tropically Chutney Surprise’ and finally third place went to Tim Brill and his “Fig’s in rum syrup” recipe. Each received a gift certificate to spend at Sergi’s.
Both events were well supported and in terms of the Taste Off keenly contested!
