The last few years have seen dramatic changes in the global trade of fresh fruit and vegetables. New countries have emerged as key production hubs and significantly increased their export volumes. Simultaneously, entire continents have seen their spending power rise, which enables them to become serious importers of fresh produce.
Countries that traditionally exported the majority of their produce have begun to retain more for domestic consumption and producers in traditional net importing continents, such as Europe, have seized their opportunity to export more.
As a consequence, today’s fresh produce business requires eyes and ears across the globe, in order to offer customers a year-round supply of the perfect produce basket.
In this context, ‘UNIVEG, your DIRECT connection to the field’ – UNIVEG’s exhibition theme – is more relevant than ever. Several members of UNIVEG Fruitpartners will be present in Berlin, to explain to visitors in person how the creation of UNIVEG Fruitpartners is optimizing the UNIVEG Group’s competitive sourcing position.
Francis Kint, CEO of UNIVEG’s Fresh Produce Business Unit, comments: “Global produce flows are changing as new players such as Asia and the Middle East are able to attract a double digit higher percentage of the world’s trade volumes. This could ultimately put pressure on availability. Already the situation is creating far stronger competition for the right product.”
“With our strong export units in each of the principle sourcing countries globally, UNIVEG is perfectly positioned to be the partner of choice to attract the right product in the required volume.”
